In de jeugdhulp ligt de nadruk vaak op zichtbaar gedrag van de jeugdige. Er wordt weinig of geen rekening gehouden met factoren die het problemen kunnen veroorzaken of in stand houden. Gevolg is dat de focus ligt op symptoombestrijding, maar het echte probleem in stand wordt gehouden en jeugdigen niet altijd de best passende hulp krijgen. Daarom is een verklarende analyse van groot belang.

Balancing collective action and connective action in new food cooperatives

Communication that fosters collective action is considered a key driver of transformational change. This study explores the role that cooperatives could play in transforming the current unsustainable food system toward sustainability. The focal point of the study is how communication processes of nonprofit cooperative forms of collective action can optimize their transformative capacity and, in a wider context, contribute to agricultural transformation. The study addresses former research on transformation, in particular on how transformation is triggered at local level. To assess how transformation can be stimulated in practice, the case of a new food cooperative – Farming Communities, a grassroots initiative in the south of the Netherlands – is investigated. Farming Communities serves as an example of an innovative form of food production and illustrates how collective action and connective action come about through interaction. Collective action, depending on the quality and the results of interaction, is fostered by acknowledged vertical and horizontal interdependence and a certain level of trust. Interaction dynamics for collective action can enhance transformative capacity by emergent new ways of doing, knowing, framing, and organizing. Furthermore, the concept of connective action is introduced, which entails interaction dynamics among individuals who share ideas and opinions via networked technologies. Connective action can overcome the fragility of a single local initiative and is suitable for enhancing the transformative capacity of a grassroots initiative. However, a surplus of connection action could hamper the robustness of collective action. Cooperatives are therefore challenged to find a fruitful balance between collective action and connective action.

Media en religie

Dagelijks worden we via kranten, radio, televisie en internet op de hoogte gehouden van wat er in Nederland en in de wereld speelt. Veel van de berichten hebben direct of indirect te maken met religie of religieuze gevoelens en uitingen van mensen. Dit is niet verwonderlijk, want religie is een belangrijk onderdeel van onze cultuur. In kunst, literatuur en architectuur, maar ook in waarden en normen, gewoontes en tradities zitten religieuze elementen verweven. Ondanks de dalende kerkelijkheid in Nederland is religie ook vandaag de dag nog een belangrijke maatschappelijke factor. In politieke debatten over bijvoorbeeld ritueel slachten, het boerka-verbod of de status van het homo-huwelijk spelen religieuze argumenten een rol van betekenis. Volgens sommige mensen een veel te grote rol; volgens andere mensen een cruciale. In ieder geval levert het ons met enige regelmaat nieuwe termen op zoals: ‘weigerambtenaar’ of ‘religiestress’. Desondanks is kennis van religie binnen het beroepenveld van de journalistiek vaak onvoldoende aanwezig om hier goed en helder over te berichten. Dit boek wil daarom de rol van religie in de samenleving belichten, vooral met het oog op de praktijk van de aankomende journalist. Ook wil het aankomende journalisten helpen om zich op een eerlijke en professionele wijze tot het verschijnsel religie te verhouden.

Kind- en gezinsgericht behandelen na seksueel misbruik

‘Wat is goede hulp wanneer er sprake is geweest van seksueel misbruik in gezinnen?’ Deze vraag stond centraal tijdens een meerjarig onderzoek van het Lectoraat Jeugd en Gezin van de Christelijke Hogeschool Ede. In dit onderzoek is samengewerkt met enkele gespecialiseerde jeugdzorginstellingen die hun gezinsgerichte behandeling bij seksueel misbruik verder willen onderbouwen. In dit artikel belichten we de complexiteit van seksueel misbruik in gezinnen en bepleiten wij dat goede hulp in deze gezinnen moet bestaan uit zowel behandeling van het slachtoffer als behandeling van het gehele gezin.

Persoonsgericht afstemmen in de verpleegkundige zorgpraktijk

Protocollair gestuurde zorg en individuele afstemming van verpleegkundige zorg lijken op gespannen voet te staan met elkaar, maar is dit ook zo? In de evidence-based practice (EBP) zijn drie componenten belangrijk voor een zorgvuldige besluitvorming: bewijs uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek, kennis over best practices en kennis over voorkeuren en waarden van zorgvragers. Veel belang wordt toegekend aan bewijs uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek dat vooral zichtbaar is in de toepassing in richtlijnen en protocollen. In de huidige regelgerichte zorg ligt veel nadruk op het naleven van die protocollen, veel minder aandacht gaat uit naar het afstemmen op de individuele voorkeuren van de patiënt.

De kloof overbruggen

Toen grote groepen vluchtelingen in ons land aanklopten, werd in tal van gemeenten naarstig gezocht naar verblijfsplaatsen. De inzet om vluchtelingen te herbergen stuitte op grote weerstand. Het meest flagrant was het verzet in Geldermalsen. Burgers kwamen in opstand tegen de gemeentelijke overheid. Trouw publiceerde op de voorpagina een iconische foto van dit volksoproer. Een vrouw met een van woede vertrokken gezicht, mond wijd open. Het was een variant op De Schreeuw van Munch, waarbij nu niet de angst maar vooral de woede in het oog sprong.

Strengthening Connectedness in Close Relationships

This article presents a model for conducting contextual therapy with the aim of contributing to the further development of contextual therapy. Its founder, Ivan Boszormenyi-Nagy, introduced the core of this approach, relational ethics, as a new paradigm for family therapy, which has been received well. The authors presume that the training of (upcoming) contextual therapists and conducting contextual therapy itself can benefit from more concrete guidelines and a phased structure. It can also enhance the further development, research and accountability of this approach. Therefore, using a design-oriented method, the authors developed a model that helps to shape a contextual therapy process and the applicable contextual interventions. It is based on strengthening connectedness in close relationships, using relational ethics as its compass. The framework of the model consists of three phases: exploring connectedness in close relationships, modifying connectedness in close relationships and reinforcing connectedness in close relationships, whereby the goals of each of these phases are defined as process elements and expanded into guidelines for nineteen interventions. The ingredients for these interventions are derived from two recent studies on the practice of Nagy and on the practice of current contextual therapists. The model is explained and substantiated based on contextual theory and therapy. Final remarks are presented in the conclusion.

Corporate Communication

In September 2015, it appeared that the Volkswagen Group had circumvented the rules for testing diesel car exhaust gases. Although the organization presents itself as eco-friendly, it used a “default device” for diesel cars to produce less CO2 during test situations. Due to this kind of scandal, corporate communication is often associated with greenwashing and the manipulation of minds. Using the normative practice approach, the authors introduce some basic distinctions that may help to come to a better understanding of what the specific duty and responsibility of communication professionals is. They argue that corporate communication stands or falls with public trust. Building confidence and public legitimation is the main task of communication professionals. Although communication is about the construction of a communal world, that does not mean that framing and strategic reasoning are not important. In order to bring in a legitimate point of view, one has to present this point of view in an impactful way. Communication professionals have to balance between the interests of the organization and the requirements of public legitimation. They also have to make convincingly clear how their personal biography and the narrative of the organization are interrelated.
