How Is Contextual Therapy Applied Today?
Contextual therapy focusses on restoring and enhancing relationships, based on its paradigm of relational ethics, presuming a human tendency for reciprocal care. It is precisely in a time of stressed relationships that this focus on strengthening humanity is of great importance. This article presents the first study on the application of this paradigm into concrete interventions of twelve current contextual therapists, answering the question: How do contextual therapists apply the contextual theory and therapy into concrete interventions? Using the Thematic Analysis, fourteen therapy sessions were analyzed, revealing a typical working-method and eight characteristic categories of interventions. The findings of this qualitative research reveal a consistent working-method and several recognizable contextual elements. These may contribute to further integrating the paradigm of relational ethics in family therapy and developing a contemporary contextual guideline for therapy. It also provides a conditional step for investigating the efficacy of contextual therapy, for evidence-based research, and for further development of the methodology of contextual therapy.

A re-experiencing of the wilderness ideal is taking place in the Netherlands. This is expressed in the attention that is being devoted to projects in which agricultural land is transformed into nature. One of these projects is central to this article: the island Tiengemeten. We aim to study the experiences of visitors to this project in order to gain insight into the extent to which there are layers of depth visible in these experiences. For a lot of respondents going into in nature in general and making a visit to an island such as Tiengemeten in particular are ways of escaping from their day-to-day existence. It is noticeable that the words and images that the visitors use to describe their experiences fit in mainly with the wilderness view of nature. The wilderness view of nature is connected with experiences of the sublime; so in this article we also ask the question as to what the shift to the wilderness view of nature means for the religious landscape of the Netherlands.

The network society is generally challenging for today’s communication practitioners because they are no longer the sole entities responsible for communication processes. This is a major change for many of them. In this paper, it will be contended that the normative practice model as developed within reformational philosophy is beneficial for clarifying the structure of communication practices. Based on this model, we argue that government communication should not be considered as primarily an activity that focuses on societal legitimation of policy; rather, it focuses on clarifying the meaning of the actions of the government. If the government can convincingly answer the question about the reason for their actions, societal legitimation will subsequently follow. Hence, it is argued that government communication is primarily linguistically qualified.

Deze publicatie betreft de eerste fase van het promotieonderzoek “In Dialoog” en is vooral bedoeld om zicht te krijgen op de onbepaalde situatie van de dialoog in het CHE-onderwijs en de betekenis hiervan voor docenten. Het verhelderen van de actuele situatie geeft inzicht in waar we staan en wat er nodig is om de dialoog te versterken. De vraag in de eerste fase van het promotieonderzoek In Dialoog is vooral gericht op de eerste deelvraag van het promotieonderzoek In Dialoog: Wat verstaan we binnen de CHE onder de dialoog en hoe ziet een dialogische wijze van onderwijs er uit die die zorgt voor betekenisgeving? Dit onderzoek is uitgevoerd vanuit een kwalitatief, narratief en communicatief perspectief, waarbij de ervaringen (verhalen) van studenten en docenten een centrale plek innemen, zoals ook het gesprek over deze ervaringen in termen van betekenisgeving en zingeving.

De hoofdvraag van het lectoraat Geloven in Context zoals geformuleerd in het onderzoeksplan luidt: "Op welke wijze kan de hbo-theoloog als startende professional de effecten van een veranderende culturele context verbinden met zijn beroepsidentiteit en professionele handelen?". In relatie tot deze hoofdvraag is een zestal deelvragen geformuleerd. Dit deelrapport biedt antwoord op de deelvragen 5a en 5b van het onderzoeksplan: 5a) Op welke wijze ervaren hbo-theologen in onderscheiden beroepsdomeinen hun beroepsidentiteit en hoe waarderen zij deze? 5b) In hoeverre ervaren hbo-theologen in onderscheiden beroepsdomeinen een discrepantie tussen beleefde en geleefde beroepsidentiteit? Drie hoofdthema’s blijken impact te hebben op de beleving van beroepsidentiteit: de worsteling met de hermeneutische competentie, het verschil in geloofsbeleving tussen de professionals en de mensen waar zij mee werken (hetzij leerlingen of gemeenteleden) en hun eigen positie binnen de organisatie waarin ze werkzaam zijn. Deze rapportage biedt een uitgebreide beschrijving van dit deelonderzoek en de belangrijkste resultaten, conclusies en aanbevelingen voor de opleidingen en het werkveld.
Geloven in Context | 01-12-2017Reflective Practices for Future Journalism: The Need, the Resistance and the Way Forward
In newsrooms journalists encounter numerous constraints accelerated by increasing technological and economic pressures. The complexity of the job and the need for (constant) innovation coupled with the rising call for transparency and accountability ask for journalists who “reflect-in-action”. Newsroom ethnographies consistently suggest that journalists experience a gap between the wish for increased self-reflection and its actual practice. Additionally, both newsroom research and journalists’ expressions in the trade press show significant resistance against reflection as being a largely academic exercise, or simply too time-consuming. We propose that considering reflection primarily from a learning perspective can overcome this resistance. Secondly, the article acknowledges that in order to enable professionals to fit reflection into their precarious practice, critical reflection should develop out of the practice itself. Reflection only makes sense if it starts from the sense of immediacy and autonomy within journalistic practice, recognises the constraints that journalists face and acknowledges the aversion among journalists against standardised protocols in their craft. Outlining the basic tenets of reflective practice, journalism's current precarity and the learning perspective, we propose further research in how informal reflective practices can enhance professional autonomy.
