In het debat over de publieke omroep gaat het om meer dan een paar programma’s of zenders meer of minder. Kernvraag is: wat voor land willen we zijn.

De recente discussie over nepnieuws en filterbubbels laat zien dat we journalisten hard nodig hebben. Een samenleving kan niet zonder instanties die aan waarheidsvinding doen. Waarheidsvinding is meer dan recht doen aan de feiten of controleur zijn van de macht.

The implementation of a National Ecological Network poses a significant challenge to the Dutch government. The establishment of this ecological network has led to conflicts among various interest groups in the public sphere, each of which defends its own interests. In this struggle for recognition communication fulfils an important role. This article contends that the discourse about nature is driven by deep frames, is comprised of values and is rooted in world-views.

Jobs of communication professionals are closely linked to transformations in society and therefore the role of these professionals is changing rapidly. Communication students must be prepared for the new demands put on communication professionals in the field. In Ede, a new curriculum in communication was launched in order to enable students to become relevant partners in dialog with society.
We can identify three areas in the new curriculum where fundamental transitions have been made, in order to meet the expectations of a profession in transition:

A re-experiencing of the wilderness ideal is taking place in the Netherlands. This is expressed in the attention that is being devoted to projects in which agricultural land is transformed into nature. One of these projects is central to this article: the island Tiengemeten. We aim to study the experiences of visitors to this project in order to gain insight into the extent to which there are layers of depth visible in these experiences.

The network society is generally challenging for today’s communication practitioners because they are no longer the sole entities responsible for communication processes. This is a major change for many of them. In this paper, it will be contended that the normative practice model as developed within reformational philosophy is beneficial for clarifying the structure of communication practices.
