Rationale for this Minor
In this unique minor students from different backgrounds will start in a multidisciplinary environment in which they will learn to frame (international) problems within the 17 sustainable development goals of the UN. Thinkers like Jeffrey Sachs en Martha Nussbaum provide a framework.
The minor can be continued by the track international social work. International social work focuses on the European context of social work, looking at trends, empowerment and delving into ‘good practices’. In this track students will do an on-site research analyzing an existing problem (real life).
The course is taught in English.
Who can apply?
- This minor is open to all students who fulfil the requirements of studying in the third year of a Bachelor degree at a University of Applied Sciences and to those who completed a relevant study in this field (or an allied degree such as Associate degree and two years of experience).
- Good command of the English language; (IELTS overall band 6.0)
- Maximum age limit of 55 years
Learning Outcomes
- Students will gain a perspective for sustainable development (J.Sachs) with an eye for poverty, health, human rights and peace building.
- Students will be able to use the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a foundation for their professional choices.
- Social work students will help analyze an existing problem (using the visual problem appraisal (VPA) method).

Courses and Assessments
ECTS credits are gained for the total participation of students in various forms of active teaching. Per Assessment (see description of tracks) you can gain 5 ECTS. Participation is obligatory.
