Solar eclipse 1999 in FranceYou could not really miss the solar eclips of august 1999. Only a few people in the Netherlands did experience one before. Was it really that special or didn't it be nothing more than just a hype. An eye-witness account supplied with some images. At 3.15 AM I leave with Bert, my brother, en some nephews and a niece. Via Breda we pass Belgium and enter France. In Belgium we see a lot of dutch plates, but in France these have been replaced by the french ones. To Lille we have frequently little rain en I question myself what the weather will do today. Yesterday evening Gerrit Hiemstra from the weather forecast showed on Nederland 1 with his computermodel a chart of expected clouds, and the north west of France appeared to become the best part to watch the solar eclips. I pray the results of this day will be to the honour of God. Than I do't have to worry what we'll see and it gives me silence in my heart not to occupy my thoughts with the question 'shall we see the solar eclipse or not?'
When we've passed Amiens we see actually a blue strip at the western horizon. Shall we really see whta we wish? We take a short break at a viewing point just a little further. We are not the only ones. Some people are ready with their equipment not to miss anything of this phenomenon. And it takes still one and a half hour before the moon will 'touch' the sun
